Villa Farnesina and the frescoes of Raphael

The myth in the frescoes of Raphael and Peruzzi

A fascinating visit to the villa of the richest patron of early 16th century Rome to retrace his seductive biography through the rooms decorated by the young Raphael and his pupils.
We will be enchanted by the elegant decorations of the fable of “Amore e Psiche” (Cupid and Psyche) and the “Loggia di Galatea” (Galatea’s Loggia), which reveal through myth the personal history of the ambitious patron, the banker Agostino Chigi who, from 1505, called upon the greatest artists of the time to create his suburban residence.

The main floor

Next we go up to the first floor where, in the Hall of Perspectives, frescoed by Baldassarre Peruzzi, the wedding between Agostino and the young and beautiful courtesan Francesca Ordeaschi took place, ending with the bedroom of the newlyweds, frescoed by Sodoma. Art, architecture and nature come together in one of the most refined residences of the Roman Renaissance.
