The Mausoleum of Augustus

The largest circular tomb in the world

A guided tour to discover the Mausoleum of Augustus, the largest circular dynastic tomb in the world with a diameter of 89 metres. After decades of closure, it is finally open to visitors and citizens of Rome following an international restauration project that has brought it back to light with the collaboration of various public and private organisations.

From its construction to the time of the famous Augustan Auditorium

The visit will retrace the countless lives of this extraordinary monument, from its construction by Octavian, victorious in the battle of Actium against Mark Antony, to its use as the Augustan Auditorium, the most important concert hall in Europe! We will not overlook the bizarre period in the 18th century that transformed it into a venue for bullfights, animal jousting and spectacles.

The period of demolition and the recent recovery

Finally, we will look at the period of demolition in the 1930s, but also at the recent restoration project of the monument and square by Francesco Cellini, aimed at giving it back to the city of Rome and its citizens after a long period of neglect.
